What Are the Steps to Become a Dump Truck Driver?
To operate a dump truck, you’ll need to:
Obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL)
Complete on-the-job CDL training
Build experience transporting loads like gravel and dirt
Get additional certificates for hazardous materials, doubles/triples, tank vehicles etc. (optional)
Maintain a clean driving record
Having a background in a field like construction adds relevant insight. Getting in with an established company provides structure as you learn routes, vehicle handling, safety protocols, maintenance, and build industry connections.
Going independent later locks in higher profit potential.
